At 16 years old, Caleb Boddicker
released an amazing 22-track demo of songs he recorded
in his Mississippi bedroom. At the time, Boddicker
was a sophomore in high school hoping to sell his
demo as a means of supplementing his future college
education (of which he took a semester off to capitalize
on online poker). Despite interest from such labels
as Merge and his current label, Banter Records,
he pushed his prodigal status aside and continued
his education.
Now at 20 years old, Boddicker has accepted his
musical brilliance, signing with Banter Records,
and is on the verge of releasing his debut album,
Big Lionhearted and the Gallant Man. Recorded at
Engine Studios in October ‘06 with production
genius Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron and Wine)
at his side, Boddicker has compiled a list of songs
that will develop comparisons to Sunset Rubdown,
the Microphones, and the Unicorns, but will nonetheless
fall into a unique category of his
own. Boddicker’s lyrics seem genuine and detached
amidst his powerful vocal delivery. The accompanying
music combines signature Deck elements such as heavy
percussion and swirling guitar sounds. Boddicker’s
music spans a wide range of genres and, similarly,
we anticipate his music will evoke a wide range
of emotions.
“A
rambling, rollicking and spikey vision of Americana,
indie-rock and blues… brilliant”
Rolling Stone - 3/4 “Touched
by a beautiful naievity and innocence, this is
where all pop music originated from. Worth seeing
where Boddicker can go with it”
